| People
from all walks of life enjoy my Native American Flutes. Here is what some of them have to say. |
|
Hello Brent, I recently made an addition to my flute collection with two more flutes made by you, a Cocobolo with Ebony trim in Ab and low E in Macassar Ebony, also with black Ebony trim and totem. I must say that, as before, the quality of your flutes
is astounding, very solid workmanship, incredibly
beautiful woodstock, the figuring wonderfully enhanced The sound quality is great, very strong, clear and focused, yet with the complexity and woodyness that adds character and life to the sound. The woodyness was actually easier to hear in the test recordings I made than it was to hear while playing it myself. I particularly liked the Cocobolo one, as it had something undefinable about its sound that made it stand out. As my first two hardwood flutes, and one even being
macassar ebony, which, from what I've heard, is one of
the densest woods around - and I assume Cocobolo is
not far behind either - the weight and solid feel of
them was rather new to me after only playing cedar I've got a few test recordings available for download on my Native American flute page at http://www.hakonsoreide.com/Music/native.html if you'd like to listen in at some of the stuff I am working on. Best regards Hakon ______________________________________________________ Hi Brent, I am a beginner at playing the Native American flute. I recently purchased two of your flutes, a Masterpiece in F# and an Eastern Lights in low C, through the Oregon Flute Store. Wow! Mere words cannot begin to describe the experience. They are beautiful and awesome, in sight and sound. There is a spot with the Eastern Light where if I position the bird just right, when I play the lowest note, it seems to echo and resonate within the flute. It's very awesome and I just love it. I am truly in awe of your workmanship. The seams between the mouthpiece, body and end cap are flawless. I love the "rails" you have incorporated into the nest. I can be a klutz at times and the rails help to keep the bird properly positioned. The way the rails work and how you blend them into the flute body is breathtaking. Thank you for using your talents and skills in making these flutes. These are masterpieces and I enjoy them greatly. Hopefully I will be contacting you soon to create another flute for me. David Hoffman ______________________________________________________ Brent, The G Drone (double) flute arrived today and it is hard to describe how truly magnificent it is. My son took it out of the box and the design and craftsmanship of the flute took my breath away before I played it - literally museum quality finish work and art. It has a great combination of both a loud clear voice and soft, warm tone.
Your vertical design makes it much easier to play, and the
additional finger holes on the drone flute provide for endless options to
create harmonies that are not possible on a standard drone type flute.
And, the fact that the main flute can be removed to be played as a
single makes 2 flutes out of 1 amazing flute.
Words really can't describe how wonderfully gifted you
are...your flutes are a must for any collector, performer, or recording
artist! This flute will be featured on the cover of my next CD, "Tribute
to the Flute Makers" (to be released in 2006).

Hi Brent, walk away, it's not like I don't own enough flutes already, but there I was buying another flute...and loving it. I can't look at them anymore because I always want to buy another. Somebody stop me before I buy the pectroglyph flute....HELP!
______________________________________________________ Brent, I LOVE IT! My new high-B flute looks absolutely fantastic (thanks for working with me on the choice of woods!), it sounds amazing, and I've been playing it almost continuously since I left your shop yesterday. It is a totally incredible flute. Your flutes really are life changing! You have an amazing talent and skill. I'm glad that you share that with the world, and I can't thank you enough for sharing it with me!

Brent,
I was delighted to
get acquainted with you and your flutes at our festival. Your flutes
have a unique and beautiful voice. I've never heard anything quite
like them. Almost a reedy quality at times, like a mellowed out sax.
I'm also very impressed with how crisply they can speak. One of my
tests for a new flute is always to try and float it into the upper register.
I like a flute that can get there in tune without having to put a lot of
extra air through it. Your flutes do this brilliantly. The
mouthpiece is unusual and extremely comfortable. Add to all of this
the sheer beauty of the workmanship and I can happily more modern looking flute that is very responsive and has a unique and beautiful voice.
I would also add that your duet book is one the best collections of non-traditional printed music for NA flute that I have seen and I will be recommending it often. Ron Warren ______________________________________________________
My flute (Mablelane) I received from Brent Haines went with my wife and
I on our trip late January to Cozumel Mexico.
Every morning I got up before the sun and went to the beach and played until
the sun was well up.
I played Mablelane all over Cozumel and it was very well received by those
around the sound of her.
Bear in mind I am a rookie flute player and I play songs from my heart.
During our stay and after playing all around our Hotel and beach for a few
days my wife and I at dinner were approached by a women who asked us If we
were the people that play the flute at the hotel. I thought " O boy - now
I'm in trouble" She said she was in her hammock the day before in the
afternoon and heard some wonderful music and that it made her very happy
and
she thanked me for playing my flute. This was so nice to hear and and
unexpected blessing. I play from my heart and the spirituality of sharing
the music from whence it comes helps me so much. I play every day and after
having been a 2 time cancer survivor in 2000 and 2001 makes me appreciate
my time left on earth.
The music I play Is a great way to share my heart.
I would like to thank Brent for making great flutes - but mostly for being
my Friend.
Highest Regards
Perry Rushton
______________________________________________________ Brent – I got the flute today and it’s absolutely beautiful. It’s even better than your photos on the website and they’re great. I got home a little early and practiced for a couple of hours. I can’t tell you how pleased I am with your work. It’s got to be extremely satisfying to create a beautiful instrument that speaks to peoples’ souls like your flutes. Thank you so much for everything. I’ll keep you updated on my progress. Best Regards, Tom ______________________________________________________ I purchased a Master Piece Series flute by Brent Haines through the Oregon flute store. This flute so impressed me that I knew Brent was the man to create my dream flute. I was raised in Hawaii for most of my life and have very strong connections to the islands and the spirits there. So, for the longest time I have wanted to have a personal flute made from Hawaiian Koa wood. Not just any flute but a power flute that speaks to the spirits that watch over me and guide me. Not only am I connected to the Huna (magic) of the islands, but also I am Cherokee buy blood and name. So, this flute has many voices that need to speak and join together. I live in Montana now, and the spirit of this land belongs to Yanasa (Buffalo) he is the spirit that gives us strength and hope. Of all the sacred animals in the native way, the Unegv Yanasa (white buffalo) is the most sacred, so it was he that the flute would sing for and prey to. Now with all these visions in my head, I needed someone special who could see them as I did. Brent Haines was that man. We talked back and forth a few times via E-mail about this project and it was amazing to find someone who saw and felt what I was seeing in this flute. Brent has a spirit sight for his flutes with regard to there voices and design. In this day and age, a lot of people want to be something there not or impersonate that which they have never known and never will. Brent’s work is sacred in that he hears the spirits of what has yet to be and allows it to become. Many artists can produce a painting, and great ones at that. But only a few can create what does not exist and give it voice, and even fewer can listen and hear what’s being said. Brent’s mastery of his craft is the doorway to this realm that allows the spirits of wood and sound to coalesce into one manifestation of sacred space. After Brent was finished with my flute and I received it, I was not surprised at what had been created. The reason being, this was what I had seen in my dreams and Brent was there. We must learn to acknowledge that what we see is very myopic in comparison to what we really are. All things have duende, the spirit of the dance. Brent is the duende of flutes in that he see’s the voice and spirit before it becomes manifest. The voice, the design, the fetish and burning of the white buffalo, all live together on a foundation of Hawaiian Koa with a voice that calls them all together as one. I wish to thank Brent for his spirit in this world and staying true to the duende of his calling. Aho my brother. Atsilv Tsunoyeni (fire in hands) aka… R Taylor ______________________________________________________ Hi Mr. Haines,I just purchased and received one of your F# river burl flutes from the Oregon Flute Store. Jeff made me a custom wrap from brain tan leather with beaded fringe for the spirit end. My breath was taken away when I opened the box. The flute is beyond beautiful, and your workmanship is beyond compare. Once I got my breath back, I put the flute to my lips and breathed the most beautiful, sweet sounds I've ever heard. I use my flutes for healing work, as well as my own journey work, and I know that this particular flute will be used extensively. I just wanted you to know how absolutely delighted I am. If you ever need a reference, I would be most honored to provide one. May you walk in harmony, beauty, and balance. Pam Woman With Many Totems ______________________________________________________ Brent, Received the F# flute. You just keep amazing me! This one is in a class by itself. I'm impressed by your new method of construction, it makes for one pleasing piece not only to look at but to handle. The choice of wood and colors of wood makes for a grand marriage. Your onto something really big with this new method. The voice is just amazing! loud without being harsh, smooth without effort. It could just be me but it sounds like the notes make a tighter resonating flow inside the flute. Best I can describe it, the notes can be stacked faster in a short amount of time. The vibration through the fingers seems to verify this. I wonder if the method of leaving the selected piece of wood whole without a glue line contributes to such a terrific and pleasing sound. Thank your sister for me on the nice warm fuzzy flute bag. I like the long strap! Your in a class by yourself. Keep up the fantastic work. Thanks Again for the joy you bring. Keep in touch, Kerry ______________________________________________________ Hi Brent,When I got home last night, the flute was waiting for me. First impression was how well you packaged it. Second impression was what a great bag your sister made, very well done, very versatile. Then I actually pulled out the flute. My eyes were popping out of my head Brent. This is a work of art. The wood, the grain, is gorgeous. And the finish is like glass. I just stared at it, looked it up and down, just sat and admired it. Then I remembered that I can actually PLAY it! I strapped on the totem and eased my first breaths into her. The tone that resulted was so sweet, and the tuning was dead on. Incredible work Brent, I can't compliment or thank you enough. She's worth every penny and more. I'll cherish this instrument forever. You'll not only get repeat business from me, I'm going to spread the word as best I can. There's a big pow wow this Summer for the Pennacook-Abenaki, and you can bet that this flute will be shown off for all to see and hear. With great thanks and respect... Kris |

Brent , Glad to hear that you'll be making more flutes out of the Chechen....Awesome....
The flutes that you've made have great sound,.... I will definitely use these
in my all my upcoming CD's...... The quality of sound and the craftsmanship ranks
very high.... I've seen others that say they are flute makers but after seeing
and playing "Brent Haines" flutes, I can only say, that they should
take a good look at his before announcing that they are flute makers |

I received the flute in perfect condition today and it looks great and plays beautifully.
I can see it will be one of my favorites. I am amazed that you can make such
a low flute with smaller holes and decent spacing making it very easy (at least
for me) to play. Love the fact that it is so light weight for a very long
flute. The thinner walls give it a good vibratory feel too. Thank you much. God bless you richly in your business and much success and peace to you and your family. Blessings, Harold Chambers |

| "I
purchased an A# flute from Brent recently. Not only do I really enjoy the sound
and resonance of it, but I was equally impressed with the amount of joy and enthusiasm
that he puts into the making of his quality flutes and this is important to me.
I can't wait to play it on my next recording." |

| Hi,
how is it going? I have been enjoying the Bass F#. It is so effortless
to play, the notes almost start sounding when you think them before you blow.
I've shown it to a lot of people and everyone marvels at how light it is. If
it
wasn't for the solid duck totem, I think it would float on air. Have you had any time to look into the transverse flutes? Let me know when you do. Happy new year. --Casey Simon |

| Brent
Haines Flutes, are each their own masterpiece. I have been involved in woodworking
and music for many years, and Brent's flutes excel in both categories. The beauty
of the Flutes can speak for themselves and are at the pinnacle of handcrafted
precision. The tonal qualities of Brent's flutes will more than meet Professional
Standards and have the ability to enchant any listener. I honestly feel that I
can not do these flutes justice with mere words. They must speak for themselves. Spencer Mangum - Concert Pianist |

| Hi
Brent, I purchased a curly maple flute from you on ebay. It is now my favorite flute by far. It is not only beautiful but the tuning is perfect. I guess I am going to be a little spoiled now. I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the flute Robyn |

| After
sampling a lot of different flutes I arrive at Brent's hardwood flutes. Cedar
does have it's place, for my purpose hardwood flutes have superior tone qualities
and Brent makes the best for me. The physical beauty and workmanship of the Padauk
and Koa flutes that I have received from Brent has caused me to replace my older
flutes with his. You won't be disappointed in these instruments from the standpoint
of all that I mentioned above. The biggest plus is the Soul and Spirit of each flute speaks to me in a very special way." |

| Hi
Mr.Haines: The flute arrived safely and plays like the other three i have don't. In other words the flute looks and plays beautiful. It's a shame that people sell things that do not live up to what they say they do. Yours truly do . The other flutes had a bird made from cane. Not a bird like goes on a normal flute. Just keep making birds like you do and your stuff will sell. Thanks so very much. Ernie "Searchingbird" Simpson |

I CAN SAY IS OUTSTANDING!!!!! Your flute makes my drone sound like a kids pan flute or something. The tone is just beautiful and the workmanship outstanding, totally outstanding. I have to run out this morning but I can't wait to get back home to play it. MAN THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!! Wish I could get my other one to sound like this!!!! Can't wait to get the next one! Can you tell I'm happy? Thanks again, Billy |

| This
flute has personality plus. It's an awesome performer, which is already among
my very top, dare I say 'core' performance favorites. It's well worth letting
a bunch of flutes go to get ones like this (the other ones are hard to be impressed
by after hearing this Bebe anyway). It's very loud compared to almost any other
flute I own (save a rare couple and the high ones). The volume at the lows and
highs is well balance and even the highest notes easily hit and distinct. It's
fundamental is strong and resonate, which I like. It's extremely expressive, perhaps
more so than any other I have ... which amazes me being a low flute. It has excellent
full base (most loud flutes are loud in the highs and mids and lack base). It's
mid range and highs are there too, with playing dynamics (soaring effects with
lows to highs, trills, tonguing etc) are very distinct clear and ... well quite
endearing. It responds quickly at will between effects, without being too hair
trigger, nor having you fight any inertia. There's a little hollow echo effect
I love that bridges between all notes n' effects (being loud, perhaps part of
that is in your own head). It's extremely resonate ... I even feel the note vibrations
in my fingers. At the end of a note or phrase, you can hear the air still rushing
through at the end of a breath carrying the effect as far as you wish. It's like
playing in your own tunnel with the a private wind carrying the notes. All notes
and effects are extremely distinct (not at all mushy). It's edgy enough to be
fun, but feels smooth and calming to the listener and supportive rather than hurting
the ears (Margo like that part). I will play it already this Sunday at Church
and it will blow their socks off! Dr. Gary Leatham of Ancient Sounds |

| Dear
Brent, I received my flute from you today. I cannot say enough about its beauty and craftsmanship. From the first time we spoke, your zeal for your craft was evident and certainly shines through in your flutes. The hauntingly warm sound and strong clear tones are sheer pleasure to the ear. I could not price the joy this instrument will bring for me. I will definitely purchase another from you in the future. Many thanks and many blessings to you and your family. Sincerely, Andy Martin |
